Raw materials and production processes
The lump-making-sweltering-disintegrating method is applied to manufacture asphalt concrete graded aggregates. Basic oxygen furnace slag at 1200℃ is poured into a shallow slag pot for initial cooling. The slag with reduced surface temperature is transported to a puddle, and then sweltered in a stockpile, which will make it disintegrate into aggregates naturally so that flattened graded aggregates can be collected. One of their features is that crushing is no longer necessary in the subsequent processing procedures. Repeated screening can be carried out to obtain aggregates with different specifications. There is high strength in these aggregates; their appearance is square-like or multi-angular, and they are particularly suitable to serve as asphalt concrete paving materials.

Product footprints
According to the guidelines of the ISO/TS14067:2013 product carbon footprint quantification and communication requirements by BSI, the carbon footprint inventory of BOFS asphalt paving aggregates was only 4.72 Kg CO2e/1000Kg, which was lower than that of natural aggregates (7.24 Kg CO2e/1000Kg). Therefore, when BOFS asphalt paving aggregates are used for road construction, they not only enhance the quality of road paving but also save energy and reduce carbon emissions.
